This is the second book in The Bone Season series by Samantha Shannon. If you have not read the first book, I wouldn’t read this review because it will probably reveal a lot from the first book. If you’re curious about this series, you’re welcome to read my review of book number one – The Bone Season.
This book begins immediately where book number one ended which is very good. The reader is immediately thrown into chaos and action. But it’s still confusing to read about all the clairvoyant and their abilities and classes.
When we start reading, Paige has managed to escape from her prison and she’s back home in Scion London. But nothing is the same. She has seen what lies behind the curtain and it is more dangerous than she thought. Paige tries to warn everybody about the Rephaim, but no one listens.
Paige is still a good main character. She is strong, brave and tough and at the same time vulnerable. There are a lot of good characters, my favorite is Nick. He is both down to earth and smart. The relationship between him and Paige is amazing. A character that hasn’t develop is Warden. He is still as “mysterious” and unreadable as in the first book. There are a lot more characters and also new characters, but they aren’t as colorful and interesting.
This book is filled with action, intrigue, and excitement. The best part about this book is how the characters develop and how mysteries are resurrected. We also get a broader view of Scion London and the world that Shannon has built up. Although it is complicated and sometimes confusing, I want to know more.
Shannon blends politics with fantasy in a good way, but unfortunately, I feel that I’m losing interest. There are too many dialogues about practical things, about politics and what can happen instead of things actually starting to happen.
The second half of this book is full of action and Shannon finishes with a huge cliff hanger which makes me want to continue this series.
